Infinity on High

Wow it's been a long time since I posted here. It's kind of daunting trying to update people on 3 of the most eventful months of my life. I'll try and be methodical.

I shipped out November 1st, went through basic training, which was hell on very angry wheels, and graduated December 15th. To give you an idea of what it was like, the day they teargassed us was a *good* day. While there I learned that my test scores didn't mean anything if I went in open general without waiting to get my job guaranteed, so, long story short, I'm now an air force cop.

I was pretty worked up about it at the time, but now I'm halfway through my tech school and puttering about it doesn't do anything. Meanwhile I've shot five different kinds of guns and a grenade launcher, chucked grenades, become certified as a small arms expert marksman (second and third times I'd ever even *touched* a gun no less), driven a humvee (it wasn't really that cool), been handcuffed, gotten to drive a squad car and diddle with the lights, sirens and loudspeaker, learned wristlocks, basic throws and cuffing and weapon retention techniques, seen pictures of self inflicted gunshot wounds, directed traffic and had, um, my manly apparatus manhandled while being searched. (the military doesn't do that pansy patdown crap you see on COPS. If it's on you we wil find it. Anywhere.)

I truly enjoy the training side of things, and air force instructors are some of the best teachers I've ever had, anywhere, period. I think it comes from having done exactly what they're teaching for years, sometimes decades. Hell, one of the civilian firearms instructors is a retired Chief Master Sergeant who could tell exactly what we were doing wrong just be looking at where our bullets were hitting, whether it was breath control, trigger squeeze, or over focusing on the target.

In about a week I leave for Camp Bullis, an army base where we do our combat training and then it's back to lackland for one more week of training, then I graduate the apprentice course and come home for two weeks. After that it's off to New Jersey, where I'll be stationed at McGuire AFB as part of a global mobility readiness squadron, which means I'll probably deploy to either Kuwait, Qatar, Iraq or Afghanistan within a year of getting there.

So yeah, three months in three minutes.

Go me.

Well, it's official and final and all at the same time. I'm leaving for Basic on November 1st. I'm going to a hotel in Rosemont the night of the 31st, and then I'm getting another physical the next day, followed by a swearing in and a busride to the airport.

I'll miss you guys.

Sometimes, I think heaven is just the place you go to kick Adam in his retarded groin.

I'm not sure whether Matt wanted to have me redo his blog because Power Rangers trulely rocked, or because he wanted to make Tori jealous...

anyway...

Where has TV gone in the past 13 years?

What happened to sparking nylon and bad guys in costumes that are too stiff to actually move?

Yeah, they would be about to die and then suddenly be able to fight even harder... every time

Yeah, the bad guys never died the first time.

And why didn't they just call the megazord the first time?

And what was the point of the little zords if all they used them for was to make the maga zord?

Why didn't the megazord ever use the one hit kill sword combo untill it was on fire?

Despite it's many flaws, it rocked.

And Matt's blog is now a temporary tribute to it...

can anyone say

"it's Morphin Time!"

Oh No

More fun than internal bleeding was ever meant to be

OK Go is awesome. Fey and artsy with a really stong undertone of vicious glee, set to amazing guitar riffs. They're like, the auditory equivalent of a cannoli filled with tiny razor blades. All pain and deliciousness. I say this so that if you see me in cardigans and paisley doing minimalist dances in my backyard, you'll know it isn't LSD or PCP.

Well, probably, anyway.

Also: anybody who wants to redo my xanga can submit an idea. Think of it like the Florence Cathedral competition, sans the difficult technical issues and the world changing results.
